1. What’s your favorite way to experience Bhakti? (hot/cold, flavor, favorite cafe, etc)
On those brisk Colorado mornings, I love to have Bhakti original steamed with almond milk. Warmer days, I crack open a Bhakti Chai Coffee Blend or Semi-Sweet Ready to Drink daily. In the heat of August, I love to cut up fresh Colorado juicy peaches and scatter them over a bowl of Bhakti Chai Chip Ice Cream.
2. What inspires you?
Brave, Resilient, and Bad Ass People.
Stories of Struggle and Triumph.
Progressive Political Thought.
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (Liberia’s President and First elected female head of state in Africa) is someone that stood up to constant opposition. She was able to turn Liberia from a state of constant violence to a country offering free education to all children, a balanced budget, instituted freedom of press, gay rights, and has set the tone and tenor to promote peace worldwide.
3. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and what would you be doing? (city/country)
This little town surrounded by water in Rajasthan hums with vitality and love. I would be writing in my journal, sipping chai in an open air cafe overlooking the ghats (stairs leading down to the water) people watching, meeting other travelers from around the world, and hearing the subtle sounds of sitar, techno music, singing, and chanting wafting throughout town.
4. If you could share a conversation or moment with any person, past or present, who would it be and why?
My mother. I would love to sit with her for hours over wine and talk love, politics, family, poetry, spirituality, and writing. Then, have Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Margaret Sanger, Mary Magdalene and Charolotte Perkins Gilman join us in the conversation!
5. What’s your favorite nonprofit or social movement?
I particularly resonate with any movement that works to empower and educate women and girls. I’m a huge fan of progressive nonprofits like the:
Urgent Action Fund – urgentactionfund.org
Global Fund for Women – www.globalfundforwomen.org
The White House Project- www.thewhitehouseproject.org
The Girl Effect – www.girleffect.org
World Pulse – worldpulse.com (a global network dedicated to bringing the voices, stories, struggles, and triumphs of women and girls around the world to the media.)
